Srinagar, May 15: A woman was rescued alive on Friday evening after allegedly attempting suicide by jumping into the waters of Dal Lake near Nanwai Market in the Hazratbal area of Srinagar, officials said.According to officials, the incident occurred close to the revered Hazratbal Shrine, prompting an immediate response from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Quick Response Team stationed in the area.The rescue operation was carried out jointly by SDRF personnel, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and local residents, who managed to retrieve the woman safely from the lake.Officials said the woman was believed to be under severe mental distress at the time of the incident. She was subsequently shifted to Police Post Hazratbal, where she is receiving protection and further assistance.Authorities have withheld her identity to protect her privacy and dignity. Further proceedings are underway.Mental health professionals stress that emotional crises can often be temporary and encourage individuals experiencing distress to seek timely support from family members, healthcare providers, or helplines.
