Baramulla, Sep 02: Police on Saturday said they arrested a woman in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district who was impersonating a sub-inspector in the police department. A police uniform and cash of Rs 10,000 was recovered from her possession.
A police official said that on Friday (September 01), Police Station Kunzer received a complaint from a person Wasif Hassan of Kunzer stating that during a bus journey, he was approached by a woman who identified herself as Ashia, claiming to be a sub-inspector currently stationed at Police Station Kunzer.
The lady assured the complainant that she had the authority to secure a position for him as a constable in J&K Police, the official said. Lured by the promise of a job opportunity, Hasan gave Ra 10,000 to the impersonating police officer.
Ashia further Hasan the same day soliciting an additional amount to expedite the delivery of his appointment order, the official said, adding that she promised that this process would be completed within two to three days.
Suspecting deception, Hasan promptly reported the matter to Police Station Kunzer and a case was registered and investigation started. “During the course of the investigation, police successfully apprehended the accused person known as Ashia (fake name), whose real identity has been revealed as Bisma Yousuf Sheikh, daughter of Mohd Yousuf Sheikh, a resident of Tappie Khag,” the police official said.
In addition to her apprehension, the investigating team also recovered a police uniform and Rs 10,000 from her possession that had been fraudulently obtained from Hasan.
Police have appealed to people not to fall prey to the hands of such fraudulent people and share such information with police.
