Woman among three drug peddlers held in Kulgam: Police

Under the operation “Drugs free kulgam”; Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested three drug peddlers including a Woman drug peddler and recovered huge quantity of Poppy Straw like contraband substance in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

A Police spokesperson said, “Kulgam police under the close supervision of SP Kulgam Shri Sahil Sarangal-IPS is making every effort to hunt down the drug peddlers in the district and to put them behind the bars.”

“In this regard, Yesterday at about 1615 hours, Acting promptly upon a specific information generated from credible sources regarding presence of contraband substance, a special team headed by DySP HQRS Kulgam Shri Ghulam Muhammad Bhat-JKPS along with SHO police station Kulgam INSP. Aayaz Geelani was constituted who swiftly reached the spot suspected locations at Rangrezpora, Kulgam. During search in presence of executive magistrate Kulgam, 41 kg and 34 kg of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered from the residential houses of the notorious drug peddlers namely; Manzoor Ahmad Naik and Ali Mohammad Naik both sons of Ghulam Qadir Naik respectively. Both the drug peddlers were arrested and send behind the bars”, he said.

He said that In an another incident, Yesterday at about 1600 hours police party headed by SHO Police station Kulgam during patrolling at Rangrezpora, Kulgam intercepted one suspicious Woman namely; Rafeeqa Akhtar W/O Mashooq Ahmad Shah R/O Rangrezpora, Kulgam carrying a nylon bag. After checking by the women police; 14.4 KG of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered from her possession. She was arrested and shifted to Women police Cell Kulgam where she remains in custody.

Regarding the incidents, Case with FIR No. 116/2023 U/S 8/15 of NDPS Act and Case with FIR No. 117/2023 U/S 8/15, 29 of NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation is in progress in both the cases.
