Ganderbal, Sept 23: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday acknowledged the worsening traffic congestion in Ganderbal district and pledged that the government would take concrete measures to ease the burden on residents.During his visit to the district, accompanied by Chief Minister’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Choudhary admitted that the road leading to Ganderbal Hospital, built decades ago, no longer meets present requirements. “Traffic jams are everywhere in J&K. When I left Jammu, I too witnessed congestion. The concerns raised by the people of Ganderbal are genuine and will be looked into,” he said. The Deputy CM came down heavily on previous administrations, accusing both PDP and BJP of failing to address core public grievances during their coalition rule from 2015 to 2018. “If earlier rulers had truly delivered on their claims of development, why are we still stuck in traffic jams today?” he said.Choudhary reiterated that the present government would not “run away from responsibilities” despite limitations under Union Territory status. “Like other UTs, powers and resources here are limited. Yet, we will continue to demand the restoration of full statehood,” he said, confirming that statehood and discussions on Article 35-A’s abrogation would be taken up in the forthcoming Assembly session and Cabinet meeting. He assured locals that once the road from Bus Adda to District Hospital Ganderbal is widened, the persistent traffic chaos would ease considerably.Later, National Conference workers from different parts of Ganderbal met Choudhary and submitted a memorandum of demands. The Deputy CM said these concerns would be addressed, adding that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself is monitoring development projects in the district. Slamming his predecessors, Choudhary declared, “Whatever we are facing today is the gift of the PDP-BJP government. We are the workers of Sher-e-Kashmir, and we will continue our struggle for the rights of our people without giving up.”
