Kulgam, July 09: The water level is receding in the Vishow River after touching the flood alarm level at Khudwani in Kulgam district and no damage has been reported from anywhere in the district, officials said.
The danger mark of the Vishow River is 8.5 meters which is measured at Khudwani and the river touched the flood alarm mark on Saturday and simultaneously with the stopping of rain it started receding.
Arif Manzoor, Assistant Engineer, Flood Control, Kulgam told Rising Kashmir that there is no threat of floods in the district and that level has decreased in the Vishow River.
“The latest update of Vishow at 7 pm on Sunday is 7.8 meters. The water level has decreased in the river and during this period no damage was reported anywhere in the district,” he said.
He said, some areas did have water logging issues which too are receding and wherever there were other issues we pushed in water pumps for dewatering,” he said.
The district administration, Kulgam had beforehand issued an advisory and set up a control room to deal with any eventuality, an official said. “The admin has advised the people living in low-lying areas around the river Vishow not to venture out on Nallah banks to avoid any untoward incident,” he said.
He said around 20 nomadic families were rescued along with their livestock in Kulgam and Pahloo tehsils.
“In Kulgam, Nursuingpora around six families were rescued, similarly in Chambgund, Ashathal 14 nomadic families along with their livestock were rescued, sheltered and provided with all the essentials,” a revenue official said.
Pertinently, The Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Dr. Bilal Mohi Ud Din Bhat visited Laisoo, Gudder villages, listened to issues of people and took first hand appraisal of situation arising due to incessant rains in the area.
