Srinagar, Mar 04: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of North Kashmir, Maqsood-ul-Zaman, on Tuesday said that police’s firm commitment to fighting terrorism and drug-related crimes in the region. Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing not just small-time offenders but also the key figures behind these unlawful activities, he said.

“Our battle against terrorism and drug trafficking continues with full intensity. We are not only targeting the perpetrators but also dismantling their financial networks. The properties of drug peddlers, which have been acquired through illegal means, are being seized as part of a broader crackdown,” he stated.

Speaking to media at Dak Bungalow Sumbal, the DIG highlighted that the new laws replace outdated colonial-era statutes, aiming to strengthen the legal framework and expedite justice delivery.

“These laws introduce significant reforms, such as Zero FIR, which allows an FIR to be registered at any police station regardless of jurisdiction, and e-FIR, enabling electronic registration of complaints,” he explained.

The DIG said the police force’s commitment to combating terrorism and the drug menace simultaneously. “We are taking strict action against the masterminds behind these illegal activities,” he said.

He also said that authorities have begun seizing properties acquired through drug trafficking and other illicit means, underscoring the administration’s zero-tolerance policy. “People must remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to eradicate this menace from society,” he urged.

The senior police official also urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in their efforts to eliminate these threats.

“Public cooperation is vital in tackling these challenges. We urge people to report suspicious activities and stand with us in the fight against terrorism and the drug menace,” he added.
