Srinagar, Jan 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has initiated a process to take over administrative control of notified properties that are being managed privately by local committees.
The Waqf Board has further constituted District level committee for the verification and submission of reports in this regard within a period of 21 days.
Chairperson J&K Waqf Board, Dr. DarakhshanAndrabi told Rising Kashmir that there are many notified properties across J&K, which were not directly controlled by Waqf.
“Now the time has come to bring under administrative control across the Union Territory and make department strong. It has been long-term demand of the public,” She said.
Dr. Andrabi said there are around 30 thousand properties are notified and most of them were run by local communities.
“We were not controlling them directly. Now the time has come take administrative control of all its assets,” she said.
Earlier an order in this regard has been issued by IshtiyaqMohi-ud-Din, Executive Magistrate Tehsildar, J&K Waqf Board.
It said, “The J&K Waqf Board has a large number of notified Waqf properties that have not been administratively controlled till date, and were being managed privately by local committees.”
“However, in view of receipt of a large number of representations by the Chairperson, J&K Waqf Board, from the general public regarding mismanagement & irregularities, it has become imperative to directly administer all such important Shrines, Jamia Masjids, Khankahs, and other assets, that nobody Waqf notified properties, to ensure transparency and accountability”, the order reads.
Accordingly, the sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of District Level committees comprising the en-closed list of members for verification and submission of reports in this regard within a period of 21 days positively, it reads.
As per the order, the committee will peruse the representations received from the general public & submit detailed reports of assets, finances & administrative affairs of such properties.
Further, the committee will prepare a list of all important Shrines, Jamia Masjids Khankahs and associated properties that are Waqf-notified properties in the district but have not been taken over by the Board tit date, along with details of assets, liabilities, income and staff.
“A separate list of those Shrines, Jamia Masjid, Khankahs, and allied properties be also prepared, that are not Waqf notified properties, but are to be brought under administrative control on the basis of representations, complaints of the general public will be prepared by the committee,” reads the order.
