Srinagar, Dec 26: The Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, will visit Jammu on Friday to attend the 10th convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) in Katra. He will be the Chief Guest at the event, which is scheduled to take place at the Matrika Auditorium on the SMVDU campus. Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will also be present at the ceremony.
In addition to attending the convocation, the Vice-President is slated to visit the revered Mata Vaishno Devi Temple and the Bhairon Baba Mandir.
A senior police officer in Reasi told Rising Kashmir that security arrangements in Katra and the surrounding areas have been significantly ramped up ahead of the Vice-President’s visit. “Additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at key locations, with CCTV surveillance, checkpoints, and frisking points set up to ensure enhanced security,” the officer stated.
During the convocation, approximately 900 degrees, 30 medals, and 20 certificates of distinction will be conferred upon deserving graduates of SMVDU.
SMVDU officials have confirmed that all arrangements for the convocation are in place. In addition, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has appointed Rashmi Singh, Commissioner Secretary of the Higher Education Department, as the Nodal Officer to oversee and coordinate the Vice-President’s visit.
