Srinagar, Mar 07: With the opening of schools after winter break, the preparation of introducing vocational courses in the government schools from class 6th to 8th is gaining momentum.
Chief Education Officer Srinagar has directed all the Zonal Education Officers and head masters of the schools to start the activities under the vocational courses with immediate effect.
With this regard, the amount of 12000 will be released to each school and for the vocational programs, 39 schools have been identified from Srinagar. The school authorities are further directed to submit the progress report before March 27, 2023.
As part of New Education Policy-2020, the Jammu and Kashmir Government is introducing vocational skills in the government schools from classes 6th to 8th for providing industry exposure and hands-on experience to the students.
Under the program, various activities will be conducted including visits of students to the nearby industry or unit to get the industry exposure. Interactive sessions, lectures and workshops on different vocational skills will be organized by roping in the local artisans and craftsmen for the students to acquire hands-on experiences on local skills and crafts, and teacher training in these schools preferably on bagless days.
For this purpose, various guidelines have been finalized by the School Education Department for the implementation of the programs in the various government schools.
This year, in the month of February, The State Coordinator, Vocational Education, SamagraShiksha had issued an order directing all the Chief Education Officers to make necessary arrangements for implementation of the programs in the approved schools on an immediate basis.
To conduct exposure visits, the schools are advised with various guidelines. The heads of the school are told to identify and invite the local artisans and craftsmen and skilled people for demonstrations and interactions with students. Minimum three exposure visits for students to the nearby industry or units shall be conducted.
“Vocational Coordinators shall coordinate with the districts for smooth conduct of the said activities and shall collect the Action Taken Reports from schools for onward submission to this office,” reads the order.
