Shopian, Oct 04: Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS), in collaboration with EnAble India and the Directorate of School Education, J&K, proudly hosted the “Reading Without Seeing” workshop — a pioneering initiative under the #SeeAMillion campaign — on 4th October, 2025, at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Shopian, J&K.

According to a statement issued here, the programme was designed to promote educational accessibility and digital empowerment for individuals with visual impairments and low vision.

The workshop introduced participants to assistive tools, technologies, and techniques that enable access to books, articles, and online resources — thereby enhancing their learning, independence, and overall quality of life. Demonstrations on assistive devices, Android applications, computer-based solutions, and inclusive platforms highlighted ways to break barriers in accessing written content and foster inclusion in education and community life.

The event began with an introduction by Ashaq A. Lone, Project Coordinator VMS, followed by opening remarks from Ashraf Ravi, Vice Principal, GBHSS Shopian.

The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Masooda Yaseen (Vice-President, VMS), who highlighted the wide range of services offered by VMS for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) across Kashmir and Ladakh. Ahsan Ul Haq Paul (Special Teacher), Lateef Ahmad (Special Teacher), and Nadia Farooq (Special Teacher), whose participation further enriched the workshop.
