Chandigarh, Oct 13: In a thrilling encounter of the Inter-state Veteran T20 Cricket Championship, the Veteran Cricket Association J&K XI secured a decisive 25-run win against Chandigarh Veterans, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The match, held in Chandigarh, saw explosive performances from both teams, with J&K’s Sunil Sharma stealing the show with a blistering century.
After winning the toss, J&K XI captain Vivek Suri opted to bat first. Openers Sunil Sharma and Amit Kumar set the tone with an explosive 179-run partnership for the first wicket. Sharma dominated the Chandigarh bowling attack, smashing a quickfire 120 off just 50 balls, while Kumar contributed 53 runs. Rajeshwar added a swift 20 runs, bringing the team’s total to a commanding 219/2 in 20 overs. Chandigarh’s Rakesh Kar and Shubham claimed one wicket each.
In response, Chandigarh Veterans began their chase on a positive note, with captain Ashwani Koul and Rahul building a solid foundation. However, Rahul was bowled out by J&K skipper Suri at 66 runs. Despite contributions from Shubham (58), Koul (39), and Deepak (26), Chandigarh fell short of the target, finishing at 194/7 in 20 overs. Suri led J&K’s bowling attack with three wickets, while Akash Kohli and Ashish Singh chipped in with two wickets each.
Sunil Sharma was named Player of the Match for his outstanding century. The final match of the championship is set to take place tomorrow.
