Srinagar, Aug 27: A group of Village Defence Guards (VDG’s) opened fire on observing suspicious movement in Meira village of Rajouri district, presently massive searches are underway, officials said.
A police Officer told Rising Kashmir that VDG members in Mehra village, Rajouri, fired warning shots after spotting suspicious movement late Monday. A search operation is underway as forces remain on high alert, he said.
They had spotted two unidentified individuals near the house of a political activist in Meira-Nagrota, about eight kilometers from Rajouri.
“Security forces quickly cordoned off the village and conducted searches, but the suspects were not found and searches are still underway,” the official said, adding that search operation was extended to adjoining villages on Tuesday.
He said a massive search operation is underway in the dense forests and technical equipment has been deployed to trace terrorists and monitor the search operation. We have launched CASO in nearby villages.
“Although there is no contact with hiding terrorists, area domination exercises are underway in the Rajouri belt. Area is being closely monitored,” he said.
He said search operations are underway in many places in Rajouri forests and routine area domination exercises are going on till late night.
“The entire Meira forest range is under a tight security cordon to neutralize the infiltrated persons. The area is mountainous and the forest is dense, making the operation both difficult and dangerous,” he added.
