Jammu, May 3: The Vande Bharat Express has emerged as a preferred mode of travel between Jammu and Srinagar, offering a faster and more affordable alternative to air and road transport, Northern Railway said on Saturday.
According to a press release issued by the Jammu Division, the train completes the journey in about four hours and 45 minutes, significantly reducing travel time compared to road travel while offering a comfortable experience.
The fare for the service starts at around Rs 730, excluding catering charges, making it accessible to a wider section of passengers. In comparison, airfares on the route are currently ranging between Rs 4,000 and Rs 6,000, the release said.
Railways said the train has witnessed strong passenger demand since its launch. Around 3,925 passengers travelled on the inaugural day, while the number rose to over 5,000 on the second day, indicating growing popularity.
Equipped with modern amenities such as a GPS-based passenger information system and upgraded interiors, the service has become a preferred choice for both tourists and locals, it said.
The train also offers onboard catering with a specially curated vegetarian Kashmiri menu by IRCTC. Passengers can opt out of meals while booking tickets, with catering charges deducted accordingly, or purchase food onboard subject to availability.
The Railways said the service is expected to achieve full occupancy in the coming days, adding that it is boosting connectivity and tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
