Srinagar, Sep 28: Senior Vice President of J&K Peoples Conference and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil on Thursday urged the government to take immediate steps to address the grievances of daily wagers who have been protesting for several days for the regularisation and release of their wages.
Vakil expressed solidarity with the protesting daily wagers and appealed to the LG administration to regularise them and release their wages without any inordinate delay.
While addressing the party workers at Nowpora Kalan, Kangroosa, Doabgah, Zaloora and Warpora areas of Sopore in north Kashmir, the PC leader said, “The government has failed to announce a comprehensive plan for mitigating the sufferings of daily wage workers, casual labourers, anganwari workers, helpers, and other classes of appointees working in different departments on an ad hoc or contractual basis.”
He said that it is unfortunate that, despite repeated assurances by the current LG administration and past governments to regularise daily wagers and contractual employees, no concrete policy decision has been taken till date.
“The present dispensation is acting as a mute spectator to their sufferings rather than mitigating them. It is the responsibility of the administration to rehabilitate them by restoring their lives and livelihoods, especially as they are making their ends meet on daily earnings,” Vakil said, adding, “Daily wagers serve the people day and night, virtually making the departments functional, but it is unfortunate that these people have been left in the lurch.”
