Srinagar, July 04: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reaffirmed the UT administration’s commitment to transforming cities into sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban areas that meet the needs of the people.
Speaking at the Conclave of High-Level Committee on Urban Planning in SKICC Srinagar, he emphasized the importance of urban areas as drivers of economic growth and the fulfilment of citizen aspirations.
“Urban planning should prioritize sustainable infrastructure and resident prosperity as cities expand and aspirations grow,” remarked the Lt. Governor. He highlighted initiatives like Urban Rejuvenation and Smart Cities campaigns, aimed at holistic city development to enhance quality of life.
Highlighting the need to boost economic activities and improve quality of life in satellite cities and rural areas, LG Sinha stressed the importance of enhanced physical and digital connectivity.
“Cities’ ecological potential will shape their economic future, advocating for accessible and inclusive public amenities and spaces. We should focus on developing commercial hubs to generate employment and business opportunities,” he added.
Addressing urban challenges posed by climate change, Sinha stressed the need for resilient urban planning to future-proof cities against extreme weather events. He urged urban planners and experts to focus on creating balanced, high-quality living spaces that integrate modern facilities with natural heritage.
The event witnessed valuable discussions and recommendations aimed at reforming urban planning policies across the country, with stakeholders emphasizing the integration of citizen feedback and environmental considerations in future urban developments.
Meanwhile, Keshav Verma, Chairman of the High-Level Committee on Urban Planning, praised the UT Administration under LG Sinha for its transformative efforts in reshaping the urban landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
Among others who attended the conclave included Satish Chandra, Chairman of J&K Real Estate Regulatory Authority (JKERA), Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner Secretary of Housing & Urban Development Department, and other urban planning experts and senior officials.
