Srinagar, May 3: Vehicular movement on the Uri–Baramulla highway was restored on Sunday after being suspended for nearly nine hours due to a major landslide at Lagama, officials said.
The landslide, triggered by fresh rainfall, brought heavy debris and mud onto the road, completely blocking traffic. Authorities temporarily halted movement on the highway as a precaution to ensure public safety.
Officials said that soon after the incident, teams with men and machinery were deployed to the site, and clearance work began immediately. “After sustained efforts, the debris was removed and the road was made trafficable after nearly nine hours,” they said.
During the closure, the administration issued a traffic advisory, asking commuters to avoid the affected stretch. Traffic was diverted through the Bandi–Paranpillan–Dachi route towards Uri to reduce inconvenience.
Authorities confirmed that the highway has now been reopened for vehicular movement. However, commuters have been advised to drive carefully in view of the ongoing weather conditions.
