Srinagar, Jan 14: Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, R R.Swain, delivered a powerful message to officers and jawans of the J&K police during the Bara Khana at District Police Lines Kupwara, urging them to provide excellent police services, work closely with the public, maintain a strong system of accountability, transparency and play a crucial role in delivering justice to those seeking assistance.
The Bara Khana, held on Sunday evening, saw the presence of dignitaries such as DIG North Kashmir Range Vivek Gupta, SSP Baramulla Amod Nagpure, SSP Handwara Dawood Ayoub, SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas, SSP Traffic Kashmir R P Singh, CO IRP 4th Bn Showkat Ahmad Dar and AIG T&P Manoj Kumar Pandith. All gazetted and non-gazetted officers and jawans of the Kupwara district actively participated in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, the DGP highlighted the significant responsibilities carried by the J&K Police. As the primary law enforcement agency in the region, the force is entrusted with the duty of safeguarding public safety, maintaining law and order, and ensuring the delivery of top-notch policing services, he said.
During his address, R RSwain said that people often turn to police stations in times of distress, with the hope that their problems will be addressed. “Police officers have a crucial role in ensuring justice and this force holds the immense responsibility of acting within the boundaries of the law and upholding the principles of justice and fairness,” he said.
The DGP directed the officers and jawans to work closely with the public, maintain a strong system of accountability and transparency, and be committed to safeguarding and promoting the overall well-being of society. He said the police, as a crucial component of the administration, must tirelessly work to protect citizens against violence, crime, and other nefarious activities.
One of the critical aspects highlighted by the J&K Police chief was the provision of public services, such as traffic management and emergency response. He urged the force to be the first point of contact for the public, demonstrating a commitment to serving the community and promoting its well-being.
The DGP also directed the identification of officials who have made significant efforts to ensure better service and justice to the public, promising acknowledgement and rewards for their dedication. During the event, Swain listened to the grievances and requests of police personnel and directed for their timely redressal.
In his welcome address, IGP Kashmir Zone V K Birdi expressed gratitude to all officers and jawans for their participation. He said J&K Police personnel are known as “cutting edge level” personnel and their work is being appreciated at various levels.
“The subordinate staff or jawans are the backbone and source of energy for the force, who are facing and overcoming diverse challenges with fortitude,” he said.
“J&K Police is facing different challenges whether working in harsh winter weather, fighting internal security or performing normal duties,” the IGP said, adding that the force is facing every challenge with fortitude.
