Srinagar, May 17: The Child Welfare Committee on Tuesday sealed an unregistered charitable trust located in the Kral Khud area of Habba Kadal, Srinagar. As a result, 12 children were rescued from the premises and subsequently transferred to Child Care institutions.
Dr. KhairulNisa, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, informed that the charitable trust had been operating without proper registration and valid documents. Following this activity, immediate action was initiated to address the situation. The trust has been sealed off, and the 12 children found on the premises have been safely relocated to Child Care institutions. The committee further noted that 25 other children had been sent back to their respective homes.
“The home known as Sheikh-ul-Aalam Charitable Trust had been operating without registration for the past eight months, leading to its closure,” stated Dr. KhairulNisa. She also mentioned that a similar home with a similar name in Jawahar Nagar had previously been sealed by the committee.
While acknowledging the importance of such homes, the Chairperson emphasized that registration was a prerequisite and expressed the committee’s disapproval of their operation without proper documentation. The committee had engaged with the trust’s Chairperson, who failed to produce valid documents and requested additional time. Dr. KhairulNisa stated, “We have granted them time to provide the necessary documents, but until then, the home will remain sealed.”
The Child Welfare Committee remains committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of children and will continue its efforts to enforce regulations and standards for such institutions, she added.
