Katra, Oct 04: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, students from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra Saturday organised a Village Outreach Programme at Kotla village as part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative, a key programme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. As per a statement issued here, the event focused on raising awareness about cleanliness, hygiene, and sustainable waste management practices in rural communities, aligning with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean India. During the outreach, students organised an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of cleanliness, personal hygiene, and proper waste management. They conducted educational sessions with villagers to explain the benefits of waste segregation, frequent handwashing, and good sanitation habits. These engaging discussions encouraged villagers to incorporate straightforward yet effective hygiene practices into their daily lives. The team also conducted demonstrations providing practical tips on household waste management and ways to keep surroundings clean. Villagers responded enthusiastically, actively participating in the discussions and pledging to maintain cleanliness in their community. School children and local youth showed keen interest in learning about the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the campaign. The villagers committed to continuing these practices in their daily routines, ensuring that the impact of the drive would extend beyond the event. During the campaign, the student team emphasised that “cleanliness is not just a one-day activity but a habit that ensures better health and a sustainable environment.” UBA Coordinator Dr Bharat Bhushan Jindal and Dr Sunny Kumar Sharma commended the enthusiasm and commitment of SMVDU students in making the drive a success. The initiative effectively reinforced the message of “Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat,” promoting a shared sense of responsibility and community-led action towards cleaner and healthier villages.
