Srinagar, August 28: The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Monday said that every household, street, and heritage site in the Srinagar district will be assigned a unique identification number. This initiative, a part of the Smart City Project, aims to streamline identification processes for people and authorities.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, revealed a ground-breaking plan aimed at enhancing identification processes in the Srinagar district.
As part of the ambitious Smart City Project, each household, street, and heritage site within the district will soon be bestowed with a distinctive identification number. This move is set to revolutionize navigation and location-based services for both residents and authorities.
This pioneering effort, initially piloted in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district in 2022, has already undergone a successful trial phase.
Divisional Commissioner VK Bidhuri emphasised that the unique identification initiative, which showed promising results in Srinagar, will soon be expanded beyond the city limits. The underlying motive is to create a seamless and efficient system that simplifies the task of locating places and individuals, benefiting residents, visitors, and administrative bodies alike.
“Underlying the project is a meticulous Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping endeavor, which employed advanced technologies such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and satellite imagery. This comprehensive mapping effort covered an impressive array of structures, including plots, residences, businesses, and educational institutions, totaling approximately 225,000 structures within Srinagar,” he said.
This transformative brainchild is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) in close partnership with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). These organizations, fueled by their shared vision for urban advancement, have been instrumental in propelling this idea into reality. The project’s momentum has been further catalyzed through collaborative synergies with prominent entities like Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, New Delhi, and GeoVista.
