Bandipora, April 29: In a major push against drug trafficking under the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Bandipora Police have booked 13 individuals under the NDPS Act over the past 20 days and registered 15 FIRs across the district.

Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), SSP Bandipora Aijaz Ahmad Zargar (JKPS) said that police have significantly intensified operations targeting both the supply and demand aspects of narcotics to dismantle drug networks and curb substance abuse.

According to officials, the 15 registered FIRs led to the arrest of 13 alleged drug peddlers. During multiple operations, police teams also recovered quantities of charas from different locations in the district.

In a parallel crackdown on illegal cultivation, authorities destroyed poppy crops spread over 10 marlas of land. The cultivators involved have been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Additionally, two immovable properties linked to drug peddling have been identified and attached as part of legal proceedings, aimed at dismantling the financial backbone of the narcotics trade.

Tightening enforcement further, police conducted inspections of pharmaceutical outlets across the district. During the drive, eight chemist shops were sealed on the spot for violating norms related to the sale of controlled substances.

As part of deterrence measures, photographs of identified NDPS offenders have been displayed at the Police Station Bandipora to discourage youth from engaging in drug-related activities.

Highlighting the importance of community participation, the SSP said that religious leaders, civil society members, and students have been actively involved in awareness campaigns. He noted that the public response has been encouraging and is helping authorities move closer to achieving a drug-free society.

Meanwhile, multiple checkpoints have been established across Bandipora, with intensified checking to prevent the transportation and circulation of narcotics within the district. (KNS)
