Srinagar, 01 May:-   The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the inclusion of “Statistics” as an additional subject in the UGC-NET examination from June 2026 onwards.

According to a public notice issued by Prof. Shyama Rath, Secretary of the University Grants Commission, the decision has been taken in line with recommendations of an expert committee. The matter was approved during the Commission’s 597th meeting held on April 18, 2026.

The UGC-NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency on behalf of the UGC to determine eligibility for Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship in Indian universities and colleges. The examination is held twice a year, in June and December.

“The Commission has decided to add ‘Statistics’ as an additional subject from June 2026 onwards to the existing list of subjects under UGC-NET,” the notice said.

The UGC further informed that the syllabus for the newly introduced subject has been made available on the official UGC-NET website, i.e., www.ugcnetonline.in.

The inclusion of Statistics is expected to provide wider academic opportunities for candidates specializing in the discipline and align the examination framework with evolving academic and research needs.
