Baramulla, June 24: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Sopore on Saturday said that three drug peddlers, including two women were arrested as part of their ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace under the operation “Drug Free Sopore.”
Police said that a substantial quantity of heroin-like substance was also seized from their possession.
A police official said that led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Amargrah police station, a police team successfully apprehended the trio, with two individuals hailing from Jammu.
The arrested individuals were identified as Abdul Latief Gojar, son of Noor Muhammad Gojar from the Doda district in Jammu, Parveen Kaunsar, daughter of Meer Hussain from Sidra Byepass in Jammu, and Shabnam Begum, daughter of Muhammad Akbar Khan, a resident of Akherwani Wulutra Rafiabad in Baramulla district.
“During the search operation, a significant quantity of a substance resembling heroin was recovered from the suspects,” the police official said.
Following the seizure, a case under FIR number 56/2023 was registered against them, encompassing relevant sections of the law.
Sopore police said that they have initiated further investigations into the matter to uncover additional details and potential connections.
