Srinagar, Apr 27:Two-minutes silence was observed at the Octroi border outpost near the International Border in Jammu’s Suchetgarh sector for the victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, officials reported.
A senior BSF official told Rising Kashmir that in a show of respect and solidarity, a two-minute silence was observed by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel before the Beating the Retreat ceremony commenced.
“Visitors who had gathered at the Octroi Post to witness the daily retreat drill also joined BSF personnel in observing the silence, creating a poignant atmosphere at the venue. Many expressed their grief and anger over the attack but appreciated the gesture of remembrance before the ceremony began,” the BSF official said.
The Beating Retreat at Suchetgarh, modeled after the famous ceremony at the Wagah Border, continues to be a significant attraction for both tourists and locals. The disciplined parade, the synchronised lowering of the national flag, and the patriotic display by BSF jawans remain a powerful reminder of the nation’s resilience and the unwavering commitment of its forces, particularly during challenging times.
“Despite the high security alert across Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam attack, the BSF ensured that the ceremony was held smoothly and with full protocol, sending a strong message that such acts of violence would not deter the spirit of the people or the security forces,” the official said.
Officials at the Octroi Post stated that all necessary security arrangements were in place to safeguard visitors and participants. Enhanced security checks, increased patrolling, and strict monitoring along the International Border have been put into effect to prevent any untoward incident.
