Vadodara, Feb 01: For the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), two women cricketers of Jammu and Kashmir namely Sarla Devi and Chitra Singh Jamwal, who are presently part of Senior Women’s North Zone One-Day squad, sealed berth in the Playing XI against East Zone on Thursday at Darshanam Sports and Education Academy, Vadodara.
Though, it was not a good outing for Sarla Devi, who was instrumental in North Zone’s victory in her first outing against South Zone on the other day, yet Chitra bowled well and took 2 important wickets, however, she was unlucky to be run out when shaping well with the bat.
Though, it was a one-sided affair as East Zone thrashed North Zone by a big margin of 194 runs, yet it was a great day for Jammu and Kashmir for the fact that two of its players found place in the Playing XI of this prestigious tournament.
What is more exciting is that apart from Sarla and Chitra, Satika Sharma is also part of the Senior Women’s North Zone One-Day squad as Strengthening and Conditioning Coach.
It is pertinent to mention here that the players from Jammu and Kashmir are frequently making it to the Senior Men, Women and age group squads in the present regime of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. For that matter, the Sub Committee governing JKCA affairs deserves appreciation for serving as beacon-lights in guiding and goading J&K cricketers to make it to the higher levels.
