Srinagar, Sept 27: Two members of proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) was killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Tuesday.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir Vijay Kumar said,”Both killed categorised terrorists of JeM outfit were identified as Mohammad Shafi Ganie of Batpora ,Kulgam and Mohammad Asif Wani alias Yawar of Takia Gopalpora Kulgam.
“02 AK 47 rifles and Ammunition recovered from their possession,” ADGP Kumar said.
He said so far 152 terrorists have been killed so far this year. While as 171 terrorists were 171 killed by the security forces during anti terrorist operations.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that two local terrorist of JeM were killed in the operation. The group was part of Monday’s operation in which one foreign terrorist was killed and these two had escaped from there, officials added.
“We are sanitising the whole area and the cordon will continue till late night,” the officer said.
Earlier based on a specific input generated by the Police regarding the presence of terrorists in Ahwatoo area, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army and CRPF.
As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding ‘terrorists’ fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.
As per police records, slain was a categorized ‘terrorist’ of JeM outfit. He was a part of a group involved in several ‘terror’ crime cases including attacks on Police, SF, and civilian killings.
Meanwhile, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in this regard and an investigation has been initiated.
“People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at the encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” the official said.
Earlier on Monday, a foreign terrorist was killed in Batapora Kulgam. He was identified as Abu Hurairah, an A-category Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorist was a resident of Pakistan.
The security forces have recovered an AK-56 assault rifle, a pistol, three grenades, four magazines, and a pistol magazine from the slain terrorist.
Two civilians and a soldier were injured during the gunbattle in Batpora village.
