Two drug peddlers held in Kulgam

Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Kulgam have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A Spokesperson said that a Police Post Mirbazar received a specific information through reliable sources that a person namely Mohd Ashraf Khanday son of Ghulam Ahmad Khanday resident of Nipora has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substance in his shopping complex.

“On receipt of this information, a special police team led by IC PP Mirbazar in presence of Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location. During search, officers were able to recover 30.850 Kgs of Poppy Straw from the said shopping complex. The accused person was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No 196/2024 U/S 8/15 NDPS act has been registered at Police station Qazigund and further investigation is in progress”, he said.

Meanwhile in another action, officers from PP Frisal at a checkpoint established at Tengbal Crossing, Frisal, intercepted a suspicious person identified as Mehraj-u-din Makroo son of Fateh Mohd Makroo resident of Nowbal Frisal. During search, officers were able to recover 3.1 Kgs of Poppy Straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS where he remains in custody. Subsequently, a case vide FIR No 73/2024 U/S 8/15 NDPS act stands registered at Police station Yaripora and investigation has been taken up.

Community members are requested to come forward or Dial-112 with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
