Two drug peddlers held in Ganderbal & Kulgam

Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Ganderbal and Kulgam and recovered psychotropic/contraband substances from their possession.

A Spokesman said that Police Station Ganderbal received information through reliable sources that one person namely Mohd Rafiq Shah son of Mohd Shafi Shah resident of Rakh Harran has concealed some contraband/psychotropic substances at his residential house with an intention to sell it to the local youth of the area. Acting swiftly, a special police team led by SHO Ganderbal conducted a search along with Executive Magistrate 1st Class. During search, 141 Bottles of Codeine like Psychotropic substance were recovered and seized from the compound/premises of the said house and the accused was arrested on the spot.

Similarly, a police team from Police Station Qaimoh set up a checkpoint at Khudwani Byepass and intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number JK03F-4926 for checking. After search, 4 Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance was recovered from the tool box of the said vehicle. The accused driver identified as John Mohd Mandoo son of Ghulam Rasool Mandoo resident of Redwani Payeen has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.

We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. General public are requested to cooperate with Police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.
