Two drug peddlers arrested in Kupwara

Kupwara, Oct 05: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Police on Sunday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Kupwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A spokesperson said that a police party of PS Kupwara during naka checking at Gonipora crossing intercepted a suspicious person. During search, a substantial quantity of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.

He has been identified as Zameer Ahmad Doom, son of Ghulam Ahmad Doom resident of Kupwara. Preliminary investigation revealed that the individual was involved in illicit drug trafficking activities in the area.

Similarly, during naka checking at Greerhachi, Kupwara, a police party intercepted a suspicious person who was coming from Lolab towards Kupwara. During search, charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Behran Ahmad Tass, son of Abdul Majeed Tass resident of Kelaroos

Both the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Kupwara and investigations have been taken up.

Police have reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking. With these arrests, the ongoing crackdown continues, and more habitual offenders are under strict surveillance. Police remains determined to uproot the menace of drugs and safeguard the youth from this societal threat.
