Srinagar, Dec 16: Two civilians were killed in a firing incident outside Army camp in Rajouri town of Jammu division on Friday morning . Following the incident police have filed an FIR into the case and an investigation has been started.
As per locals, the firing incident took place around 6:30 am outside the Alpha Gate of the Army camp located on the Poonch-Rajouri highway. Both bodies were found nearby the road, a few meters from the Alpha Army gate.
The slain civilians were identified as Kamal Kumar and Surinder Kumar from the Rajouri district and another person Anil Kumar of Uttarakhand was also seriously injured in the incident.
SSP Rajouri Mohammad Aslam Choudhary told Rising Kashmir that they have started an investigation into the matter and all angles were to be probed during the inquiry.
The incident triggered street protests in the entire town and people blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway. The vehicular traffic remained suspended for several hours and protestors were demanding a probe into the firing incident.
“Police have registered an FIR in the incident. The entire firing incident will be handled professionally and thoroughly investigated. Later details of the investigation will be shared with the media,” he said.
“The protestors were given assurance by the administration that the investigation will be done in a fair manner,” he said.
A senior official at Army told Rising Kashmir that there was a firing incident in Rajouri in which two locals have been killed and we have also investigated this matter.
Earlier in an official tweet, White Knight Corps said, “In an early morning firing incident by unidentified terrorists at Rajouri near the military hospital, there have been fatal casualty of two individuals,” the Army Corps wrote in a tweet.
“The police, security forces, and civil administration officials are on the site,” he said.
To pacify the protesters, a team of civil and police officials including DC Rajouri Vikas Kundal, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Dr Haseeb Mughal, SSP Rajouri Mohammad Aslam Choudhary, Army Station Commander and other officers assured the protestors that all their demands would be fulfilled.
While administration assured to provide jobs to the wives of the deceased porters and education to their wards, police assured that a fair and just investigation be conducted into the killings and the culprits, whosoever, would be punished under the law.
Addressing media persons, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, Dr Haseeb Mughal said, “after the firing incident, a police team immediately reached at the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital. An FIR has also been registered and a thorough probe would be conducted to punish the culprit. The details of the enquiry shall be shared separately”.
Meanwhile, he thanked the civil and police officials for professionally handling the situation post killing.
According to him, the bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary of the GMC Rajouri for conducting the post-mortem.
“After conducting the legal formalities, we will conduct a fair and transparent enquiry into the killings,” assured the DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range.
