Srinagar, July 19:  In a groundbreaking initiative to preserve the renowned Dal Lake from waste and weeds, Clean Effentech International Pvt Ltd (CEF) Group, in partnership with the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), is set to process 7000 Kgs of extracted Dal Lake waste and transform it into usable organic manure.
The waste processing plant, which is currently under construction, is scheduled to commence its operations from August this year, as confirmed by officials.
Maninder Singh Nayyar, the visionary Founder and CEO of CEF Group, revealed that Dal Lake generates an estimated 70,000 tonnes of lake waste annually, based on data obtained from the Jammu & Kashmir Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) over the past few years. Recognizing the urgent need to repurpose this organic waste, CEF Group took the lead in devising an effective solution—the waste processing plant.
“Starting from August 2023, we will harness thousands of tonnes of waste from Dal Lake and convert them into 24,000 tonnes of organic manure,” stated CEO Maninder Singh Nayyar.
The project aims to not only benefit the environment but also provide substantial support to farmers in the region by promoting organic farming through the usage of organic manure, replacing chemical fertilizers. Nayyar expressed that local farmers currently face the burden of purchasing manure from distant states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, incurring high costs. However, with the establishment of the waste processing plant, farmers in Jammu & Kashmir can now access organic manure at affordable prices. The plant’s processing capabilities encompass all organic waste, including lake weeds and lilies, extracted from Dal Lake. This holistic approach not only manages the waste effectively but also enhances the beauty of Dal Lake, eliminating the unsightly heaps of organic waste that previously marred its boundaries.
Kamlendra Srivastava, Executive Director of NAFED, emphasized the significance of such collaborations and innovative solutions in achieving climate change goals and fostering green growth across the country. He believes that the Dal Lake waste processing plant will serve as a model for other states to adopt similar partnerships and embrace sustainable waste management practices.
With this remarkable endeavor, Clean Effentech International Pvt Ltd and NAFED set a powerful example of environmental responsibility and demonstrate how waste can be transformed into a valuable resource, ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable future for Dal Lake and beyond.
