The Tulip Garden in Srinagar, which attracts lakhs of tourists every year, has been closed to the public as of April 21, 2023.

The decision has come as the Tulip Bloom, which occurs from early March to the end of April, is almost over. The Tulip Committee, through its communication No. F-69/DDK/No/CSS/188, recommended the closure of the garden, which was subsequently issued by the Director Floriculture Kashmir.

This year, the Tulip Garden saw a record number of tourists, with more than 3.7 lakh visitors flocking to the garden. The gardens’ colourful tulips, picturesque landscapes and stunning views of the Zabarwan hills enticed tourists from across the country.

The Tulip Garden was opened to the public in 2007, and has since become one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the country. The garden spans over approximately 30 hectares, and is home to a wide variety of tulips, alongside other species of flowers.

The garden’s closure has saddened tourists who had planned to visit it, but the administration’s decision is necessary to allow the garden to recuperate after the heavy footfall it witnessed in the past weeks. The administration has urged the public to respect the decision, and ensure that the garden is not damaged during the closure.

Overall, the Tulip Garden has been a boost to the tourism industry in Srinagar, attracting lakhs of tourists every year. It is hoped that the garden will continue to be a top destination for tourists, while also ensuring that the garden is protected and preserved for years to come.
