While the enthusiasts in huge numbers indulged in delightful Independence day celebrations, a spirited tribal group outshone with their unparalleled performance securing the top performer’s position at their school, Municipal Council (MC) Kulgam, during the prestigious District Police Lines (DPL) event on 77th Independence day.

The stage was set, the crowd gathered in anticipation, and the air was thick with excitement as the tribal ensemble prepared to make their mark. With their eyes sparkling in determination, ten students from the Government Middle School, Naikpora Kulgam stepped forward to showcase their talents during the momentous occasion of Independence Day.

These less privileged students, namely Shanaza Akther, Tahir Ahmad, Dilshada Akther, Muneera Akther, Bisma Jan, Saima Haneef, Jan Rabiya, Saika Mehraj, Ishrat Jan, were not only redefining the talent while the group also included a specially-abled student whose extraordinary performance left the audiences in awe.

As the music of “Nikka Jeye Dhola” began to play, the performers moved in harmony, each step resonating with the beat of their culture. Their captivating performance not only stole the spotlight but also captured the hearts of the audience gathered at the grand event held at the District Police Lines (DPL). Applause erupted, and smiles lit up the faces of the onlookers as the group left an indelible mark with their mesmerizing display of talent.

The sounds of their success story reverberated as they clinched the top prize at the Municipal Council Kulgam event. The MC President stepped forward, awarding them for their exceptional performance. The joy on their faces was palpable as they accepted the award, proud of their tribal culture and achievement.

The journey of success was not over yet. The spotlight now shifted to the prestigious DPL event, a platform where dreams were realized and legacies were forged. The local community rallied behind them with fervour, a united show of support for these young talents. It was here that a local NGO recognized the remarkable spirit of a specially-abled student among them.

As the applause subsided, the significance of this achievement became clear. These young performers, hailing from the Government Middle School, Naikpora Kulgam, had not only showcased their cultural heritage but had also demonstrated the power of determination in the face of challenges. Their story was a reminder that talent knows no bounds and that unity and perseverance can create moments of triumph that inspire us all.

About school:

GMS Naikpora Kulgam with tagline, “Spreading Smiles through Joy full Learning” is a unique school in the town which is blessed with a diverse culture. The school forms a repository of traditions, art, and culture. The school has a total roll of 176 students out of which 80 percent of the students belong to the ST community.

Gazi Showkat, the teacher at the school told Rising Kashmir that the students have been enrolled from the nearby catchment area through the mobilization of their community.

He said, “These ST students enrolled in the school are being imparted vocational courses of sewing and crewel work. The students are within their desired level of competences and are doing well in other co-curricular activities.”

“These talented ST students never miss any opportunity to celebrate any special occasion with regard to education being organized at Zonal, District, and even at the State level”, he added.

Showcasing a cultural extravaganza at DPL Kulgam on the eve of Independence Day celebrations becomes imperative upon all education functionaries at Zonal, district, and UT levels to encourage these students, mobilize their community members for mainstreaming their wards in such type of schools and allow them to highlight their innate qualities in such type of programs.

This heartwarming performance underscores the importance of providing equal opportunities and recognizing talent from all sections of society, showcasing the unity in diversity that makes the nation truly resilient and harmonious. As the curtain falls on this captivating tale, the legacy of these young performers lives on as an inspiration for generations to come.
