Srinagar, Feb 23: In an attempt to reduce road accidents, the traffic police has launched a city-wide special drive to detect drunk driving in Srinagar district.
On Thursday, dozens of drivers who were found drunk have been fined so far, a traffic police official told Rising Kashmir.
He said that they started the city-wide drive a few days ago with the goal of educating drivers about the dangers of driving after drinking alcohol for their own safety and the safety of pedestrians.
When drunk drivers are challenged, they are also educated not to drive after drinking alcohol and are warned that their licences may be revoked if they are caught driving after drinking alcohol again, he said.
Traffic police SSP Srinagar, Muzzafer Shah, told Rising Kashmir that the drive would be continued throughout the city in the coming time.
He said that drivers must avoid driving after drinking alcohol because the chances of an accident are high.
On being asked if traffic police are conducting these drives on any specific routes, the officer said these drives are being conducted in different locations of the city, adding that they have formed some teams to detect these drivers.
However, the official did not reveal the official figures for recent challans.
