Srinagar, June 13: Traffic Police Srinagar has introduced modern vehicles equipped with “360-degree BTZ cameras” on various routes in an effort to address the issue of traffic violations in Srinagar city.
These technologically advanced vehicles, deployed as part of the smart city initiative, aim to streamline traffic and alert traffic cops to any violations.
Speaking to reporters here, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Traffic Police City, Tariq Ahmad, highlighted the capabilities of these vehicles.
He said that the smart cars are fitted with cutting-edge technology that allows them to record videos of moving vehicles and track any violations. The vehicles are also fitted with a speed gun radar that provides real-time speed measurements of moving vehicles.
Ahmad emphasised the gravity of traffic rule violations and the steps being taken to regulate them. He assured the public that these actions were taken solely to benefit and protect drivers. The Traffic Police Department has recommended the cancellation of route permits and licences for traffic violators as part of their efforts to maintain traffic order in the city.
According to the Traffic Police, the mobile vehicles deployed in Srinagar are GPS-enabled and capable of detecting traffic violations on various routes. These vehicles are controlled from a command centre, allowing for quick coordination and response. Currently, the vehicles are stationed along Hajj pilgrim routes. Furthermore, during the upcoming AmarnathYatra, they will be deployed on routes to facilitate pilgrim transportation to the Amarnath shrine.
The implementation of these modern vehicles with advanced camera systems marks a significant step forward in the efforts to combat traffic violations in Srinagar. The Traffic Police City remains committed to ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and enhancing road safety for all residents and visitors alike.
“The traffic official has implemented a strategy to address traffic violations by deploying personnel directly on the roads.” This physical presence enables them to actively monitor and enforce traffic rules. As a result of these efforts, dozens of challans, or traffic tickets, are being issued regularly, the traffic police official said.
The official further said that steps have been taken streamline traffic management by challenging or seizing numerous vehicles on a daily basis. This indicates that they are actively targeting and addressing vehicles that are in violation of traffic regulations.
“By physically placing their personnel on the roads and taking action against violators, the traffic official aims to improve overall traffic discipline and ensure compliance with traffic laws. These measures contribute to a safer and more organized traffic environment, the officer maintained.
