Srinagar, Dec 31: In anticipation of moderate to heavy snowfall forecasted between January 2 and January 6, 2025, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, R.P. Singh, convened a high-level meeting today to address traffic management on National Highway-44 (NH-44). The focus of the meeting was to ensure uninterrupted vehicular movement between Pampore and Qazigund during adverse weather conditions.
The meeting, held at the Traffic Headquarters, brought together key stakeholders, including DySP Traffic Qazigund, DySP Traffic Anantnag, Tehsildar Qazigund, DTI Qazigund, DTI Anantnag, officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Nowyug Tunnel authorities, representatives from Ramki, and other relevant personnel.
Adequate manpower and machinery will be deployed to ensure swift removal of snow from NH-44. Critical points like Chumullah, Levdoora Flyover, and Vessu will have dedicated machinery to mitigate risks. Salt and Urea Sprinkling: Special teams will sprinkle salt and urea on slippery sections to prevent accidents.
Cemented barricades will be installed to block unnecessary highway cuts, ensuring smoother traffic flow. Additional traffic officials will be deployed to manage vehicular movement effectively. Stakeholders were directed to remain vigilant, take timely decisions, and prepare for contingencies.
Vehicles will not be allowed to enter the Nowyug Tunnel during road blockages caused by snow accumulation to prevent stranding.
Participants discussed potential challenges and devised a comprehensive preparedness plan. The SSP emphasized the importance of seamless coordination among departments to ensure public safety and convenience.
The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on proactive measures and effective communication to tackle the challenges posed by heavy snowfall. The formulated plan aims to facilitate commuters while minimizing disruptions during the anticipated weather conditions.
