Ganderbal, Mar 17: The Traders Federation Kangan expressed deep concern over the escalating garbage crisis and traffic mismanagement in the main town of Kangan.
In a joint press conference, they announced a four-day ultimatum to the Rural Development Department (RDD) to address these pressing issues, threatening to initiate a protest if immediate action is not taken.
The federation highlighted that garbage collection vehicles have been absent from the town for the past fifteen days, leading to piles of waste accumulation on roads and footpaths.
The uncollected garbage has resulted in a foul smell permeating the town, causing significant inconvenience to residents and businesses alike.
In addition to the garbage crisis, the federation raised concerns over the lack of proper traffic management in the main town, which has led to frequent traffic jams. They also pointed out that street vendors are occupying various locations without proper regulation, urging the administration to allocate designated spaces for vendors to conduct their businesses.
“The situation is unbearable. Where are we supposed to throw our garbage if the block administration cannot provide garbage collection vehicles? We are paying for this service, yet nothing is being done,” said the President for the Traders Federation. “There are mounds of garbage lying in multiple locations across the town, and the people are suffering because of it.”
The federation said that they have repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities but have seen no action taken so far. “We have brought this matter to their attention multiple times, but our concerns have been ignored,” he added.
The Traders Federation has given the RDD a four-day ultimatum to clean up the garbage from the town and restore garbage collection services. If the department fails to meet the deadline, the federation has vowed to organize a protest to demand accountability and immediate action.
