Torrential downpour triggers landslides in Kashmir parts

Srinagar, Apr 20: The torrential downpour over the past many days has triggered landslides in Sonmarg and Pahalgam however no casualties were been reported so far.
 
Officials informed that a landslide occurred at Rezin area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District on Thursday morning which caused blockage of Srinagar-Sonamarg road.
 
Tehsildar Gund Javid Iqbal said the landslide has occurred in a non-landslide prone area, adding, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported in the incident so far.
 
Meanwhile, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kangan, with Tehsildar Gund and the Police team from Gund police station have reached the spot.
 
Tehsildar said that the traffic has been diverted via Zirpora Road and roads will be cleared with the help of Beacon authorities.
 
Officials informed that the administration has also issued an advisory asking people not to venture out in landslide prone areas as a precautionary measure.
 
On Wednesday, following continuous rainfall a landslide was reported in Pahalgam which led to the blocking of a road however no casualty was reported in the incident.
 
Officials informed that a landslide was caused by torrential rain which led to the blocking of the road between Pahalgam and Chandanwari which was later cleared by District administration Anantnag and Municipal Council Pahalgam.
