Srinagar, June 12: In a fervent appeal for peace and solidarity, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, urged the public to remain calm and assured them of the administration’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism from the Union Territory.
Addressing the Folk Festival organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Art Culture and Languages at SKICC, Sinha emphasized the critical role of the community in supporting the efforts against terrorism.
Responding to the recent Reasi attack that claimed nine lives and injured 41 others, Sinha condemned the act as cowardly and acknowledged the widespread anger it sparked among the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “The anger among people is genuine. People should have faith in the great valour, courage, and intelligence of police and security forces. We will not rest till we root out terrorism and its supporters from the J&K soil,” he asserted.
The heinous attack occurred on June 10, when terrorists targeted a bus carrying pilgrims returning from Shiv Khori, resulting in significant casualties. In his address, the LG highlighted the importance of trust in the capabilities of the police and security forces, reiterating their dedication to ensuring safety and security.
Sinha also called upon the artist community to contribute to the fight against terrorism. “We must stand united in the fight against terrorism. I have full faith in our Police and Security forces who are working round the clock to ensure a safe and secure environment for the people. ,” he stated.
He encouraged artists to use their platforms to raise awareness and expose elements that condone or support the terror ecosystem.
The Lieutenant Governor underscored the essential role of society in thwarting the nefarious designs of those aiding and abetting terrorism. “Every section of the society is distressed and anguished by the heinous crime committed by the terrorists against humanity in Reasi. We should work together to identify and isolate the elements trying to disrupt peace,” he said.
He urged citizens to report any critical information to law enforcement agencies, emphasizing the collective responsibility in eliminating terror elements for a peaceful and prosperous future of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation. “Unity in diversity is our biggest strength. Each one of us must discharge our responsibility in eliminating terror elements for a peaceful and prosperous future of Jammu Kashmir and the nation,” he added.
The LG also lauded the efforts of the J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, the All J&K Folk Artists Association, and similar organizations for promoting peace and harmony through art and culture.
The event saw the presence of Suresh Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary of the Culture Department; Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar; Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, Chairman of the All J&K Folk Artists Association; senior officials, and prominent artists, all united in their resolve to combat terrorism and promote unity.
