An official said, Mechanical Department is equipped with a fleet of 21 snow clearance machines for 553.94 kilometres of road in the district.
In view of weather advisory and snowfall in the valley, the Kulgam Administration established snow-clearance control rooms.
An official said that for effective snow clearance the Mechanical Field Sub-Division Kulgam has established three snow clearance Control rooms one each at Chawalgam Kulgam, Bathipora Damhal Hanji Pora, and Devsar.
An official said the department is equipped with a fleet of 21 snow clearance machines comprising seven variable blade snow ploughs, 10 fixed blade snow cats, two specialized snow cutters, two loaders, and adequate manpower.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Viqar Ahmed Giri today visited Mechanical Field Sub-Division Chawalgam and took a first-hand account of the preparedness of the Department for snow clearance procedures.
On the visit, an official of the Mechanical department informed the ADC that the department is prepared for any challenges associated with mechanized snow removal in the district.
The official also briefed the ADC that the Mechanical department Kulgam is entrusted to clear 553.94 kilometers comprising 156 roads of district Kulgam, out of which 376.67 Kilometres are priority first and 177.25 Kilometres are priority second roads.
Moreover, ADC has directed the mechanical department to keep men and machinery ready and to ensure timely snow removal from roads whenever necessary during this winter season.
