Srinagar, Mar 03: In a tragic incident, three persons are feared dead after an old bridge over the Jhelum River collapsed in Mohra Uri, located in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Officials have confirmed that a search operation is currently underway to locate the bodies.
According to local reports, the incident occurred while three labourers were dismantling the bridge. They reportedly went missing after the bridge collapsed suddenly from the Gingal area of Mohra Uri. Promptly responding to the situation, the Army, civil administration, and police rushed to the spot to initiate search and rescue efforts.
The missing persons have been identified as Shakeel Ahmad Mir, son of Sayeed-ullah Mir from Kupwara; Bilal Ahmad Reshi, son of Abdul AhadReshi from ArizalBudgam; and Mohammad AslamChauhan from Anantnag.
Rafiq Lone, SHO Uri, stated that the rescue operation has been temporarily halted due to darkness and will resume early Monday morning. He further mentioned plans to deploy additional teams to aid in the search for the bodies.
“It was an old bridge which was being demolished, but unfortunately it collapsed and three workers drowned in Jhelum. After that we also launched rescue operations but there was success,” SHO Lone said.
In a separate incident on the same day, two minor boys were rescued after slipping into a Nallah in Mundji village of Sopore. Following a major operation, both boys, identified as Areeb Bashir Mir and SabiqMushtaq Mir, residents of Mundji, were rescued. Sabiq’s condition is reported to be critical, and they have been shifted to SDH Sopore for medical attention.
