Baramulla, June 28: Three elected councillors from the Municipal Council (MC) Baramulla have been booked by the local police following a scuffle that allegedly erupted between employees and councillors.
A police official said that the incident took place on Tuesday, leading to the lodging of an FIR against the accused councillors.
“A case with FIR No 131/2023 has been registered at the Baramulla police station,” he said.
“The three councillors have been charged with damaging government property and using unparliamentary language against employees and the executive officer of MC Baramulla.”
Baramulla police said that they have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
Police said that the situation unfolded when the executive officer of MC Baramulla lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that the councilors forcibly entered the MC Baramulla office and subjected officials present to verbal abuse.
Furthermore, they reportedly caused damage to government property during the incident. The seriousness of these allegations prompted the police to take swift action.
It is worth noting that this incident occurred just a day after the former MC Baramulla President was removed from his position.
The former president faced a no-confidence motion and subsequently lost the floor test, leading to his ousting.
