Ganderbal, Mar 21: Amid tears and mourning, BJP leader and former MLA from Gurez, Faqeer Mohammad Khan, was laid to rest in Wooder Kangan on Friday. Thousands of people from different areas gathered to pay their final respects to the late leader, whose sudden demise has sent shockwaves across political and social circles in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khan, a senior BJP figure, allegedly died by suicide on Thrusday after shooting himself at his government quarter in Tulsibagh, Srinagar. The tragic incident has sparked demands for a thorough investigation from both his family members and party colleagues.
Prominent political leaders, including former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, visited Kangan to offer condolences to the bereaved family. Mufti expressed deep sorrow over Khan’s untimely death and stood in solidarity with his family during this time of grief.
Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Ghulam Ali Khatana, also expressed condolences, stating, “Deeply saddened to hear about the unfortunate demise of Jenab Fakir Mohammad Khan, former MLA of Gurez. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, along with several senior BJP leaders, conveyed their sympathies to the family and praised Khan’s contributions to public service.
BJP workers and leaders have urged authorities to conduct a fair and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. “It would be premature to draw any conclusions without a proper probe,” one senior BJP functionary said.
Relatives and close associates of Khan remembered him as a dedicated and hardworking leader who tirelessly worked for the welfare of the people, especially in the remote region of Gurez.
