Srinagar:  Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma on Sunday criticised opposition parties saying those claiming the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference government is on a ventilator are themselves in a coma and asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have decisively rejected them for the next five years.

Speaking to reporters, the Minister for Youth Services and Sports said certain political parties had expected to form the government but were voted out by the people. He accused opposition leaders of attempting to revive “horse-trading and money politics” after failing electorally.

They thought they would form the government, but the people of Jammu and Kashmir rejected them outright for 60 months. Now they want to return to the politics of horse-trading and financial dealings,” Sharma said.

Defending the strength of the National Conference, Sharma said the party remained alive, strong and politically relevant despite functioning with limited resources in a Union Territory setup. He contrasted the party’s condition with that of the Congress, saying, If someone is on a ventilator, it is Congress  not National Conference.

The minister reiterated that the fight for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir was continuing and expressed hope that the promises made by New Delhi would eventually be fulfilled. He also alleged that some leaders projecting themselves as future prime ministerial candidates were not interested in restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s rights.

Sharma further advised bureaucrats to remember that they are public servants and warned that public anger against corruption and exploitation was growing.

Despite his criticism of the system, Sharma said he remained hopeful because Prime Minister Narendra Modi understands Jammu and Kashmir and cares for its people.
