Budgam, Apr 23: Senior leader of National Conference and Lok Sabha candidate for Srinagar constituency, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday voiced his opposition to the decision made in 2019, which he believes resulted in the deprivation of rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He was referring to the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile State into two union territories.
Addressing a workers’ convention in the Khag tehsil of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Mehdi said the NC is against this decision. He reiterated the party’s commitment to advocating for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters, Mehdi said that some political parties in Jammu and Kashmir are contesting the parliamentary elections in alliance with the BJP, as evident from their words and statements. “National Conference aims to represent the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the Indian parliament, where their rights were curtailed in 2019, and advocate for the restoration of their special rights,” he said.
Highlighting the significance of the upcoming elections, Ruhullah said they are being contested in the same parliament where the decision to abrogate Article 370 and 35A was made on August 5, 2019. “This election presents an opportunity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to voice their concerns in the very forum where this decision was taken,” he said.
