Anantnag, Dec 12: A youth from the Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district is helping sports persons to groom their talent.
Mohsin Hameed, 31, an interior home designer by profession, has been helping young cricketers and other athletes to groom their sporting talent by providing a platform for them.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Mohsin said that in collaboration with the local youth of Bijbehara, he organised two sports festivals in which hundreds of players from various parts of the district participated with great enthusiasm.
“The players competed in Net Ball, Wushu, Karate and Badminton,” he said, adding that he has made it his aim in life to support youth in grooming their sporting talent by providing a platform to them.
An ace cricketer himself, Hameed is the captain of a local cricket team. “I have selected the best players from many districts into my team,” he said, adding that he bears all their expenses.
Mohsin said some of the players from his cricket team have played at the state level including Danish Hilal, Adnan Nazir, Sabdar Ali and Iqbal Sofi.
Mohammed Aarif, a local resident of Bijbehara, said that Mohsin is the chairman of a club ‘Team 7 Stars’ through which these sports events are being organised. He said that for these events, the infrastructure facilities of the Youth Services and Sports department are used.
“The games are played indoors,” he said, adding that refreshments for players, mementos and other things are arranged by Hameed. The events help local youth to use their energies in a positive way, Arif added.
Pawan Jeet Singh, a national-level Net Ball player from the Mattan area of Anantnag, said the events give the youth exposure to compete with other teams. “The competitions help us to keep ourselves fit and also boost our morale,” he said, adding that some good talent comes into the limelight.
Singh, who has been associated with the national Net Ball and is captain of the senior team since 2011, said he is grateful to Mohsin Hameed for providing a platform to the sports persons of the area.
