Srinagar, Sept 25: Special polling stations set up for the second phase of the Assembly Elections drew significant attention, especially from young voters eager to engage with the electoral process. Designed with specific themes to promote inclusivity and sustainability, these stations featured engaging elements that encouraged active participation.
A standout attraction at many of these polling stations was the introduction of selfie points. Young voters enthusiastically took selfies after casting their votes, transforming the exercise of their democratic right into a memorable event. Reports indicated that long lines formed as eager voters participated in the election process, often sharing their selfies on social media to emphasize the importance of voting.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pandurang K. Pole emphasized the significance of these themed polling stations. “These special stations were created with the needs of various voter groups in mind, including women, youth, persons with disabilities (PwDs), and border residents,” he stated. “They ensure that every voter, regardless of their background or location, has the opportunity to participate in the elections in a welcoming and accessible environment.”
Among the diverse types of special polling stations, some were managed entirely by women or youth, while others promoted eco-friendly practices, such as Green Polling Stations. These environmentally conscious stations featured sustainable elements like recyclable materials and minimal energy consumption, reflecting the Election Commission of India’s commitment to inclusivity and environmental sustainability.
In addition to their unique features, special polling stations have previously proven effective in boosting voter turnout. During past elections, these themed booths attracted a significant number of voters, highlighting the public’s growing interest in engaging with the electoral process in a distinctive and enjoyable manner.
