Katra, Oct 06: Renowned theatre director and playwright, Balwant Thakur, on Sunday urged devotees and visitors to experience ‘Mata Ki Kahani’, a vibrant musical theatre production currently being showcased by Natrang Jammu. Described as the most electrifying theatrical presentation ever produced in Jammu & Kashmir, the show is being performed twice daily at 3 pm and 6 pm at the Spiritual Growth Centre Auditorium, Katra, until the end of Navratras.
Thakur, credited for numerous world-class theatrical productions, emphasized that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity not to be missed. A pilgrim from Gujarat, after watching the show, expressed that ‘Mata Ki Kahani’ is on par with any world-class production, stating it was the best performance he had ever seen. He recommended that all pilgrims visiting the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine should witness the show to better understand the legend of the Goddess.
The play offers a spectacular rendition of the popular legend of Mata Vaishno Devi, portraying her story in a way that resonates with every Hindu household. Through a mesmerizing display of stagecraft, lighting, and visual poetry, the audience is transported on a captivating journey. The production highlights the goddess’s manifestations—Mata Maha Kali, Mata Maha Lakshmi, and Mata Maha Saraswati—and their collective spiritual strength.
Audiences across India have lauded the performance, with many calling it the most memorable presentation of their lives. Some even wished for the show to run year-round to benefit the millions of pilgrims who visit Katra annually. Many admitted that they had little knowledge of the full legend of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi before watching the play, which illuminated various aspects of her story.
The cast includes a large ensemble of talented artists, including Neeraj Kant, Brijesh Avtar Sharma, and Palshin Dutta, among others. The sets are designed by VeerjiSumbli, with lighting by Shivam Singh, and the show is coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
This artistic venture, showcasing the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region, continues to leave a lasting impact on its audience, further enriching the experience of those on their pilgrimage to the revered shrine.
