Srinagar, Apr 17: In yet another incident of targeted killing, terrorists shot dead a non-local labourer hailing from Bihar in the Jablipora area of Bijbehara, located in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
A police spokesman said stated, “Terrorists fired upon a non-local labourer from Bihar at the Jablipora area in Bijbehara. The injured labourer was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment by locals and the police party.”
The injured, identified as Raja Shah,a resident of Bihar, sustained close-range gunshot wounds, receiving two bullets to the neck and abdomen, according to a local eyewitness. Due to severe injuries resulting in significant blood loss, the injured labourer succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, with doctors pronouncing him dead upon arrival.
Soon after the attack, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and paramilitary forces cordoned off the area to trace the terrorists behind the attack.
A police officer told Rising Kashmir that they received information about a terror crime incident in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag where terrorists had fired upon civilians on Wednesday late evening.
“So far no terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. Senior police officers along with reinforcement reached the terror crime spot.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. The investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this terror crime.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has condemned the terror attack in Bijbehara, Anantnag today. He has conveyed his condolences to the family of the martyred civilian Raja Shah, a resident of Bihar.
The Lt Governor said: “No words are strong enough to condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Bijbehara, Anantnag, targeting Raja Shah, a resident of Bihar. “I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family of the innocent civilian martyred in this cowardly attack. Entire nation stands in solidarity with the family in this hour of grief,” he said.
“We have full faith in the unparalleled valour of J&K Police and security forces, and I assure the people that terrorists responsible for this barbaric act will have to pay a very heavy price. We will hunt down the perpetrators and crush those elements, who are aiding and abetting the terrorists,” the LG stated.
It was the second attack by terrorists in the past 8 days in the Kashmir. On April 08, a non-local cab driver was injured after being shot by terrorists in Padpawan, area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
On Feb 08, this year, two Punjab residents were killed in Srinagar terrorist attack. They were identified by RohitMashi R/o Amritsar, Punjab. Amritpal Singh, 31, were shot at by terrorists from point blank range at ShaheedGunj in Srinagar.
In December 2023, a retired senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mohammad Shafi Mir was shot dead by terrorists inside a mosque in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district when he was giving call for early morning prayers.
Meanwhile political parties condemned the terror incident ,emphasizing that such acts of terror hinder peace in J&K.
JKNC President Dr.Farooq Abdullah and VP OmarAbdullah expressed shock and sadness at the news of RajshahJi’s death, who succumbed to grievous injuries after being shot at in Bijbehara today. They vehemently condemn the attack, emphasizing that such acts of terror hinder peace in J&K, party spokesman said.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said that also condemned the terror incident and stated that condemn this senseless act of violence.
Altaf Thakur, BJP JK spokesman also strongly condemned the brutal killing of Bihar resident Raja Shah. He said Shah was earning his livelihood at Bijbehara, Ananatnag.
“Such acts reflect frustration of adversaries and these acts will in no way revive election boycott politics in Kashmir. Urge police to track down the killers of this innocent man and punish them sternly,” Thakur said.
Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman GhulamNabi Azad also strongly condemned the tragic Bijbehara attack in which a non local named Raja Shah, of Bihar lost his life in this senseless act of violence.
“Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. This must end, people want peace but terrorists don’t want peace. We must stand together against this act!,” he said.
The terror incident comes days before as Udhampur constituency will go to polls in the first phase of LokSabha elections on April 19, the first general elections in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.
