Jammu, Aug 06: Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the movement of terrorists in the dense forests of Udhampur’s upper reaches, security forces launched a joint search operation early this morning. Contact has been established with a group of terrorists.
“After specific input was gleaned regarding movements in the area, a SADO (Search and Destroy Operation) was launched in the wee hours today (Tuesday) by our parties; contact has been established with a group of terrorists in the Khaned area of Basantgarh police station and Ops (operations) are underway,” said the Deputy Inspector General (Udhampur) in a post on X.
Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to track down and neutralize the terrorists hiding in the dense forests, officials confirmed.
Meanwhile, SSP Udhampur, Joginder Singh, said that a cordon has been established. “The cordon has been laid and the entire area has been surrounded to ensure that terrorists do not escape,” he told Rising Kashmir.
Sources suggest that this could be the same group of terrorists involved in the attack on an Army vehicle in the Machedi area of Kathua district and the subsequent attack on a pilgrim bus at Reasi. The dense forests of Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, and Billawar are interconnected, providing potential escape routes for the terrorists.
The movement of these terrorists was detected in Udhampur early this morning. Security forces remain on high alert as the operation continues.
